After 19 Months, Emma West Finally Pleads Guilty To Lesser Racially-Aggravated Section 5 Offense In London Subway Rant; No Jail Time Received

After 19 months, Emma West's prolonged legal ordeal will finally be settled. The Daily Mail reports that West, who was originally charged with a racially aggravated section 4 public order offence for a November 2011 racist rant aboard a London subway, has pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of a racially aggravated section 5 public order offence -- using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour, or disorderly behaviour that is likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress -- when she appeared at Croydon Crown Court on Monday June 3rd, 2013. Complicating the issue is that West already pleaded guilty in May 2013 to stabbing and slashing her partner Ricky Metson (The Sun refers to Metson as her husband) with a seven-inch ornamental knife after an argument erupted over her brother, and subsequently assaulting a police officer who came to arrest her; this additional charge was not reported until now. Metson only suffered superficial injuries.

The tram rant case and the assault cases were adjourned until June 24th pending pre-sentence reports. This Is Croydon Today says West will actually be sentenced jointly for the subway rant and the attacks on her partner and a police officer on July 1st. Judge Warwick Mckinnon has already indicated West will not face a jail sentence, since a section 5 offence calls for no jail time. The maximum fine would be £5,000. A community service sentence seems most likely.

Update July 1st: Emma West was sentenced on this date, and received no jail time. For the tram incident, West was bound over to keep the peace and be of good behavior for 12 months, and must not engage in any offensive or disorderly behavior on public transport. And for the separate offense of attacking Ricky Metson with an ornamental knife and assaulting a police officer, she was given a community order for 24 months with a supervision requirement for the period under the supervision of a probation officer and a mental health treatment requirement with her current psychiatrist. The judge explained that West was clearly suffering from mental health problems at the time of the outburst on board the tram, and had unwittingly overdosed on the medication she took for depression.

This Is Croydon Today reports that West was reluctant to plead guilty for fear of being branded a racist. They claim that West’s barrister said support for West expressed by the National Front and the British National Party -- which included sending her flowers and checks -- had greatly distressed his client and led her try and take her own life. I suspect that West may have renounced the NF and the BNP under duress, though; she simply was ill-equipped to handle the firestorm of publicity attendant to her case.

Here's a brief timeline of Emma West's legal ordeal:

-- First appeared in court on November 29th, 2011.

-- Trials scheduled in June and July 2012 postponed pending psychiatric reports.

-- Trial scheduled for September 5th, 2012 also postponed pending receipt of psychiatric reports.

-- Trial scheduled for January 2013 was also postponed, reason unspecified.

-- Trial scheduled for April 9th, 2013 also postponed for unspecified legal reasons.

The reason for the psychiatric enquiries was because the 34-year-old West, who has suffered from depression since she was 18, was admitted to a psychiatric ward in Foxley Lane, Purley, in September 2011, just two months before the incident. Following her release she had been receiving support at the Tamworth Road Resource Centre, in West Croydon. It was as West returned from one of these sessions with her four-year-old son that she lashed out aboard the train. Her barrister, David Martin-Sperry, told the court during an earlier hearing that she had taken double the recommended dose of antidepressant Citalopram which had caused her to have “unusual” ideas.

The pressures of living in a multicultural Britain which treats the majority White population like second-class citizens undoubtedly contributed to her anxiety. Diversity is NOT a strength. As Harold Covington would say, if Whites had a country of their own, this would not be happening.
