Jan Lamprecht Of African Crisis Reveals That The Zimbabwe Resistance Movement Is A Hoax

Recently the South Africa Sucks blog posted a manifesto published by an entity called the "Zimbabwe Resistance Movement". The manifesto, originally published on the Nehanda Radio website, called upon Zimbabweans to launch armed struggle to overthrow the Mugabe regime. The entire manifesto can be read at either of the two links above.

Some commenters on South Africa Sucks were skeptical. And their skepticism became justified in spades when Jan Lamprecht posted an article on his AfricanCrisis website in which he reveals the Zimbabwe Resistance Movement to be a hoax. A Rhodesian contact who was in the Special Branch of the Police first spotted it as a hoax right away.

But after going through his archives, Lamprecht decided it was a hoax when he found records of Robert Mugabe pulling a similar hoax in November 2003. Lamprecht informs us that the original hoax was actually done with quite a lot of style - and perhaps it was better done because he had more money then. The target of the hoax at the time was Peter Tatchell, a white guy in the UK who is a vehement anti-Mugabe campaigner and who tried to do a citizen's arrest on him once.

Basically, Mugabe's people approached Peter Tatchell himself and fooled him into being their conduit. They even had a website, and the full statement about who they were was in the email. Tatchell was actually taking in by the whole ZFM (Zimbabwe Freedom Movement) hoax. Tatchell believed (for a time at least) that it was the real deal. But it turned out to be just one more of Mugabe's cheap, street corner whore tricks.

So somebody, somewhere is now using e-mail to circulate this hoax and utter fabrication. Lamprecht strongly urges people not to believe this utter garbage for one second.

Here is the full text of the original hoax and Lamprecht's comments from 17 November 2003. At the very bottom of the article are his comments from 2003 wherein he suggested it was probably a hoax sanctioned by Mugabe himself: Zimbabwe Coup Threat by Military & Police rebels

Faking revolutions, and creating a fake opposition in order to have a fake revolution is really an old trick. In fact, the original fake revolution in communism was one created by Lenin himself in the 1920's. The full details of it are in Golitsyn's massive tome, "New Lies for Old". Golitsyn I think explained how Lenin pretended "communism was dying" in the 1920's and how he successfully pulled off one of the greatest coups EVER. It involved using former generals from the White Army (the anti-communists), and it involved a massive trick that ended up with them not only fooling all of Europe but also later arresting large numbers of anti-communists. So, creating a fake opposition and then faking your own enemy is really an old trick of the sort the communists like. Among Mugabe's hoaxes over the years was that he was dying... and then of course, let's not forget the various moles and fakes he's embedded into the MDC. Like this one: Zim: MDC: Is Mugabe's Top Mole 'ready to die' in a Fake Revolution?

So, folks, FORGET IT... THE MILITARY AND CIO ARE NOT GOING TO RISE UP AGAINST MUGABE. This is aimed at DEFUSING THE MDC'S MILITARY POTENTIAL. It is intended to make people think Mugabe is about to fall... and then... nothing will happen. Do not waste even 1 second of your time thinking this is possible. It is complete and UTTER RUBBISH.

The MDC must just carry on as it is doing. Its doing well and it must not be deceived into taking another course of action. The CIO and Military and Police have had 9 years to overthrow Mugabe and haven't done a damned thing. Do you really expect them to do so now? Its junk folks. Its smoke, mirrors and more lies from these despicable fiends.

I've been reading Jan Lamprecht's commentary aperiodically for about two years, and I find him credible and reliable.
