Crypto-Republikwan Libertarian Bob Barr Tells White Supremacists "Don't Let The Door Hit You On The Ass On The Way Out"

Crypto-Republikwan Libertarian Presidential Candidate Bob Barr, a failed ex-Republican who got gerrymandered out of his U.S. House seat in Georgia, and, after losing a subsequent primary battle against another Republican, opportunistically re-invented himself as a "libertarian", lashed out at the white nationalist movement and told white "supremacists" to get out of his campaign and not to let the door hit them on the ass on their way out. Story reported by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

This response was triggered by an essay written in support of Barr's campaign by James Buchanan and posted on the WhiteCivilRights website. After highlighting the deficiencies of Hillary, Obama, and McCain, explaining how all three were detrimental to the American white community, Buchanan had this to say about Bob Barr:

White conservatives and White Nationalists now have an unpleasant choice: They can vote for the Libertarian candidate Bob Barr, an honest, decent man, who has consistently stood for conservative principles even though he stands no real chance of winning. A vote for Bob Barr would at least send a message to the Republican Party that conservatives and Whites won’t sit still as they are stuck with a liberal presidential candidate like McCain. Supporting Bob Barr might even pave the way for a Third Party to replace the increasingly repugnant Republican Party.

And the Barr campaign was also being positively promoted on the Stormfront discussion forum. White nationalists were beginning to coalesce behind Barr, not because he's a racial nationalist, but because he was believed to replicate a number of our other social values, particularly defense of the traditional family structure and opposition to the promotion and protection of the homosexual lifestyle.

High praise indeed. Because of Barr's efforts to impeach womanizer Bill Clinton, I too was somewhat impressed, albeit a bit cynical of his sudden volte-face towards "libertarianism".

But did Bob Barr show any gratitude. Absolutely not; when we offered bread, he gave us a stone in return. Thirdpartywatch.com reported that Barr campaign manager Russ Verney issued this statement:

”The Barr campaign is not going to be a vehicle for every fringe and hate group to promote itself. We do not want and will not accept the support of haters. Tell the haters I said don’t let the door hit you on the backside on your way out! Anyone with love in their heart for our country and for every resident of our country regardless of race, religion, nationality or sexual orientation is welcome with open arms.”

Did you notice the phrase "sexual orientation"? This means the Barr campaign is going to reach out to queers. Wow! Family-oriented white nationalists are anathema, but queers are O.K.! So much for the guy who we thought stood for family values, eh? But then again, Barr recently denounced the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), the same act that he himself helped to construct. If he's looking for an official campaign song, perhaps this song from Culture Club might fit the bill.

David Weigel at Reason.com offers this bit of essential background on Libertarian politics, and why that endorsement struck a nerve. Weigel states that "one of the bigger media blunders the Ron Paul campaign made was its handling of endorsements from the bigots at Stormfront. White nationalists slithered around the fringes of the Paul movement, and Paul refused to return a donation from Stormfronter Don Black on the grounds that he’d rather the money be spent on the Paul campaign than spent by racists".

Now that Bob Barr's perfidy has become publicly known, Stormfronters are reacting much less favorably on a different thread. Vanguard News Network Forum members are quite critical as well. But while Bob Barr wants to hide from white nationalists now, he wasn't afraid to take their money in the past, accepting at least $65,000 to defend Chester Doles. And all he got Doles was a better plea deal; Doles still served time.

Unlike Ron Paul, who never launched any preemptive attacks on the white nationalist community and didn't deserve the grief that one tiny but disproportionately vocal segment of that community directed towards him, Bob Barr has launched a totally unprovoked attack. Consequently, it is insufficient for white nationalists merely to support someone else. It is also necessary to actively oppose Bob Barr, and to ensure that others are aware of his hypocrisy, duplicity, and opportunism. Bob Barr effectively "stole" the Libertarian Presidential nomination, and there are libertarians out there who don't want him stealing the rest of their party as well.
