South African Patriot And Co-Founder Of Herstigte National Party Willie Marais Dies
Noted South African patriot Willie Marais (pictured at left), a leader and co-founder of the white supremacist Herstigte National Party (HNP), has died of a heart attack at the age of 79, the party said. Party chief secretary Louis van der Schyff said Marais was on holiday at Klein Brakrivier when he had a heart attack, and died in hospital at Mossel Bay yesterday. Marais, a businessman and farmer, born on August 10th, 1928, was one of four MPs who founded the HNP in 1969 as an ultra-conservative breakaway from the National Party (disbanded in 2005). He served for many years as its chairman before taking over the leadership from Jaap Marais in 2000.
In the 22 years of its existence, the HNP invariably lost its deposits in elections and only ever had one MP, Louis Stofberg, who later defected to the Conservative Party (in 2003, it merged with the Freedom Front to become the "Freedom Front Plus"). It was still calling last year for the creation of a united Afrikaner “white front” as “the only way to regain political power in this country”.
At its 2006 congress, the party adopted an “Afrikaner Freedom Manifesto” that complained about the losses that Afrikaners had suffered because incompetent and illiterate Blacks got the vote. “We complain about the systematic and continual plundering by Blacks that we have to endure, which destroys everything and has ruined Whites,” said the manifesto, which was signed by Marais himself.
“We see no prospect of peace and happiness for ourselves and our children in this country under a Black dictatorship. The Blacks of this country owe us immense gratitude, because we raised their standard of living, and protected them against each others’ lust for murder”, according to the manifesto.
According to Wikipedia's account, the Herstigte National Party rejected the concept of a "white volkstaat", claiming all of South Africa for the Afrikaner instead. They believe that the interests of the black population will be sufficiently met in the former homelands. However, Wikipedia questions how the HNP could achieve this goal. The HNP clearly does not recognise the new order in South Africa, and as a result, encourages people not to vote as part of their policy of resistance. But this also makes it difficult to determine the exact support levels the party enjoys.
Louis van der Schyff said that Marais had been a man who stood firmly on principle, but never humiliated his political opponent. “With his gentle nature and his engaging personality, Willie Marais had friends across the whole world”, said van der Schyff.
Marais leaves a wife, Dollie, and seven children.
Commentary: Too bad P.W. Botha and F.W. deKlerk didn't have one-tenth the spine displayed by Willie Marais. The transition out of apartheid would have gone better for whites - and many other South Africans, as well.
But the HNP vision for South Africa appears unachievable. Whites are outnumbered 10-to-1. One scheme frequently discussed, most recently on the South Africa Sucks blog, is a combined white-coloured homeland in the southwest part of the country, extending from East London in the east to Cape Town and northward, encompassing Cape Province. South African whites proposing this solution believe they are so outnumbered that they must throw in with the coloureds in order to gain sufficient leverage. However, South African President Thabo Mbeki refuses to entertain this idea (probably because he realizes his country would go to complete shit without the whites).
But Willie Marais proved prescient and accurate when he discussed the adverse effects the end of apartheid would have on South Arican whites, particular upon Afrikaners, who generally aren't quite as entrepreneurial as the English-origin whites. They have been victimized far more by South Africa's draconian affirmative action. And so black majority rule hasn't so much lifted blacks out of poverty as it has redirected poverty towards whites.
A Rapport newspaper article published on September 8th, 2007 documents how South Africa's 3-million Afrikaners -- all multilingual people with a high standard Western education and a protestant work ethnic -- are being forced back into the stone-age by the current ANC-regime's laws which bars such 'whites' from the labour market. South Africa has about 4.5 million whites, of whom 3 million are Afrikaners.
Rapport newspaper surveyed the current living conditions of the country's Afrikaner community -- and has found that they have now returned to identical destitution as they had been plunged into shortly after the Anglo-Boer war in 1902 right up to the Great Depression of the 1930s. During those years, the 'poor white' problem in South Africa was even highlighted by an international Red Cross report at that time - and international aid funding was made available to try and alleviate the destitution of poor Afrikaners in those years. Now, the housing crisis for the country's 1 million destitute, unemployable Afrikaners in fact has taken on criticial proportions.
Of the South Africans whites living in total destitution, 380,000 are men, and 610,000 are women, who are not only unemployed, but permanently unemployable due to the ANC-regime's blacks-only hiring laws for the entire labour market. Also, some 7,000 Afrikaner families live in squatter huts or some kind of informal structure such as a tent or a caravan. In addition, some 11,000 to 12,000 Afrikaner families are said to share rooms and living space.
The number of shelters for Afrikaner-destitute familes have soared over the past four years - and not all of them are suitable for human habitation. For instance in Daspoort, Pretoria, there is a shelter for the homeless where more than twenty Afrikaners live together on one erf - most rely on a monthly $87 disability pension to survive on. From this small amount of money they have to hand over more than half to the shelter. Other occupants are elderly pensioners who get about $82 a month. These people can afford no more than one meal a day if they are lucky, because most of their income is handed over to the landlord.
North of Pretoria, there's shelters where 75 people are crowded together on one smallholding for which the retired pensioners have to pay $35 a month and the rest have to work to get food and a shelter.' A Church recently installed toilets and a kitchen here. Unprotected power lines hang over the Wendy houses, the shacks and the tents where barefoot Afrikaner children, chickens, pigs and goats all play on the same dirty soil.
In the now ironically-named Pretoria Gardens suburb, there's a prime example of how destitute people are being abused by ruthless 'land barons'. The seven-roomed house is rented out at the rate of R1,800 a month per room - including utility costs. Thus the owner earns about R12,600 a month from the misery of destitute Afrikaners.
Even the garage behind the house has been turned into a living space for two families with four children which has to pay a monthly R1,800 each just to live there. Even the old outside toilets have been turned into living spaces - in those small rooms, there are five men and an elderly woman, each paying R450 a month.
In the very back of the erf, there are three tiny shacks, each containing a tiny kitchen, bathroom and bedroom - one just the size of a standard single-car garage. The rental for each of these three shacks is R1,800 each. And next to these three shacks, there's a garden-enclosure made of reeds in which a human being lives for R1,800 a month. These are just a few examples of the destitution in which Afrikaners are now finding themselves countrywide. And these are people who are educated and multi-lingual, with high skills levels.
South African whites may well have to join with coloureds to form a viable "white homeland" if they are to survive in South Africa.
