New Jersey Judge Denies Request To Move Eric Hunt To A Medical Facility

SOMERVILLE, N.J. -- A man accused of roughing up Nobel laureate and Holocaust scholar Elie Wiesel at a San Francisco hotel this month was denied bail Tuesday despite his lawyer's contention that the suspect needs mental help. Judge Robert Reed denied a request to move Eric Hunt, 22, (pictured at left courtesy of the Washington Post) to a psychiatric or medical facility so he can continue an unspecified regimen of medication he was taking before his arrest Saturday at a behavioral health clinic.

Defense attorney James Addis said Hunt is not a flight risk or a danger to people. He did not know what Hunt was specifically being treated for at the Carrier Clinic, a psychiatric and addiction treatment center. "I think this is a medical problem, judge," Addis said. "I am concerned for his mental well-being."

Addis said he had only spoken briefly with Hunt on Tuesday, adding that Hunt did not mention the alleged incident in San Francisco. Asked if Hunt had evidenced any violent or anti-Semitic tendencies or opinions, Addis replied, "No. None whatsoever." Hunt himself did not speak during the five-minute hearing.

Hunt faces charges in California including attempted kidnapping, false imprisonment, elder abuse, stalking, battery and the commission of a hate crime, according to San Francisco police. Commentary: The defense led off by playing the "mental competency" card as its opening gambit. Apparently the judge decided to parry the thrust. The judge may also be reacting to the severity of the charges; he doesn't think it appropriate to release an accused person indicted on six separate counts to an unsecured medical facility.

This incident continues to generate considerable discussion within the white nationalist community. On this Vanguard News Network Forum thread, Bill White, the generally well-informed editor of Libertarian Socialist News, took an optimistic viewpoint. "The guy is going to go to court, apologize, get a slap on the wrist and be released", White posted. However, Hunt's not only been socked with six separate charges, but there's a "hate" enhancer attached to EACH charge. Considering that the San Francisco District Attorney has stuck her neck out so far on this case, there's no way she'll settle for a mere "slap on the wrist".

A more realistic outcome was envisioned by another VNN Forum member. "I'm not surprise the least denial of bail. Most likely he will get a long term sentence. This is part of jew-screw tighten on gentiles after the Seattle incident, a Muslim shot a hebe in synagogue. What this boils down to even in so much a goy touches a hebes hair, you get the full weight. Especial to a high priest. No way in hell however mild maybe, no goyim has a right to even argue with a jew", a forum member named Il Duce posted. While Il Duce may be a bit too pessimistic, I believe his assessment is more realistic. Most likely he'll have to do at least some time, probably a year at the most.

This issue is also being discussed on this thread on The Phora. The Anti-Defamation League has also issued a typical "woe-is-us" statement.
